Orthodontics For Adults
Braces for all ages
People tend to associate orthodontics with children and adolescents. However, almost one in every three orthodontic patients is an adult, with a range in ages from late teens to sixties. Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self esteem while also improving the health of your teeth and gums. The increase in technology, techniques, and materials offers adult patients more opportunity and flexibility to improve their self confidence through straighter teeth and a new smile.
The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, transluscent braces or transparent aligners to improve mild cases of misaligned teeth.
During the initial examination we will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs. We can then outline the treatment plan, expected treatment time and the approximate cost.
Surgical Orthodontics
In some patients there maybe a jaw discrepancy which orthodontic treatment alone will not correct. Just as orthodontics repositions teeth jaw surgery may be necessary to reposition the jaws. As the jaws are repositioned the teeth also change position hence orthodontics is necessary in conjunction with jaw surgery. There is a pre-surgical phase of orthodontic treatment, followed by the surgery. The braces are in place for the surgery and there is a post-surgical phase of orthodontic treatment to enable the teeth to fit together in the newly corrected jaw position.
Surgery is performed in a hospital unit by a maxillofacial surgeon. Remember jaw surgery is an elective decision and not something you have to do.
